Opwijk
Opwijk is a municipality in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, located approximately 20 km northwest of Brussels. The place is known for its rural character and rich historical background. Opwijk includes a number of sub-municipalities and hamlets, including Mazenzele, and offers various walking and cycling routes that lead through picturesque landscapes and past authentic farms and churches. The best-known attraction is St. Paul's Church in the center of Opwijk, a Gothic building from the 15th century with a tower dating from the 13th century.
Opwijk has an active cultural life with various annual events such as market days, folk festivals and the internationally famous carnival parade. The municipality has excellent public transport links, including its own train station, making it a convenient base for visiting the surrounding regions. For visitors, there are several eateries serving local specialties, as well as accommodations ranging from cozy bed & breakfasts to comfortable hotels.
