The beautifully restored former prison Huis van Bewaring (House of Detention) is situated in the heart of Almelo. It has been successfully transformed from an old prison into a truly splendid hotel. The hotel offers spacious rooms featuring large beds. Warm colours give the rooms a sense of romance. The hotel furthermore has a coffee corner and a pleasant outdoor terrace.
Breakfast is available on weekdays from 07:00, and at weekends from 08:00. Guests can order a packed lunch to take with them. And you can grab a complimentary tea or coffee in the former interrogation room.
The surroundings are ideal for walking, cycling and canoeing. Huis van Bewaring is a half-hour drive from Enschede and the German border. Around Almelo are several canals, ideal for boat or canoe trips. From the city centre you can walk or cycle directly into the green countryside of Twente. Almelo boasts many attractions including the city farm Het Wevershuisje, the Bolletje Shop with an authentic coffee shop and the City Museum. You'll also find several galleries in the city centre.

“Very pleasant hotel, quiet ambience.”
- Pleasant service, very good breakfast, quiet environment, no noise. Comfortable room, comfortable bed. Coffee tea facilities on arrival downstairs. Helpful staff.
- No tea-making facilities in room. No lift, but my suitcase was carried upstairs.

- The rooms and the hotels are really cozy ,the bed ohhhhh perfect fpr make you sleep tight aswell, the staff friendly makes me feel at home, the location is nearby all , at the heart of almelo, nice for make a good shopping.. Is one the best boutique hotels thay I alread been.. I Recommend .. Hope back soon...

- Excellent personal service. Being a prison, it is a very special building nicely decorated into ahotel. Worth the experience!

- Amazing conversion of a city prison to a first class boutique hotel. Very tastefully converted & decorated. The owners are very helpful. My only reservation would be the limited parking, I guess most of the former prisoners didn't bring their cars??
