Departing in front of Restaurant 't VeerHuys is a ferry that crosses the river Lek to Wijk bij Duurstede. Dorestad - as Wijk bij Duurstede used be called - was an important European trading point during the Middle Ages. Many archaeological discoveries have been made in and around Wijk bij Duurstede, which can now be viewed at Museum Dorestad. The small city of Culemborg with its beautiful historic city centre and dozens of listed buildings lies just five kilometres away from Beusichem.
