Forest Hotel lies in the centre of Den Helder. Besides dunes, beaches, and sea, Den Helder also has an atmospheric city centre, a number of fun attractions, and good museums. The rooms in the hotel are all equipped with a shower and/or bath, a toilet, telephone, and a television. The hotel also has an atmospheric bar/bistro, where guests can relax in one of the comfortable chairs and enjoy the various meat and fish specialities.

The breakfast buffet is served on Monday through Friday from 08:00 to 10:00 h. and on weekends from 08:00 to 11:00 h. The homely restaurant offers various meat and fish specialities and at the lively bar guests can enjoy a nice drink or a quick snack.

Den Helder lies in the north of the province Noord-Holland, to the north of Alkmaar. From the harbour guests can take the ferry to the island Texel. Den Helder is known as the home base of the Dutch Royal Navy. The town has the oldest military defense line in The Netherlands; various fortresses along this 'Stelling' are now being renovated. The city hall, which was built in 1851 in art deco style, has also been restored to its former glory. One impressive point of recognition in Den Helder is the lighthouse 'Lange Jaap,' 63 metres tall, it is the highest cast iron tower in Europe. Den Helder has good transportation connections through the public roads and the railroads. The train line between Den Helder and Nijmegen has many stops in between, one of which is Alkmaar.

“I had a beautiful stay in the hotel ”

- awesome staff, lady at the reception did everything possible to meet my requirements, was able to get a room late at night, very kind and polite - cozy, modern, comfortable and always clean rooms - excellent location in the centre of Den Helder - good breakfast and coffee service in the rooms - fridge outside the rooms, in a hallway, where you can put your own food drinks - privacy, calm and relaxing stay - only 2 minutes walk from train station
- no air-conditioning, although there was a small fan to keep guest cooler during hot summer days

“Great service, authentic atmosphere, but needs some renovation”

Service was great, bed comfortable, balcony was great.
Hotel is old fashioned, they need to renovate some things without losing the authentic atmosphere. shower was not strong enough, furniture on balcony was rusty, looking old. There was an ashtray full of cigarettes left on the balcony. They forgot to remove the dirty towels from the previous guests. When mentioned they apologized and cleared it directly. Other than that it was a good stay. Ferry to Texel is further away than mentioned on the site.

“Result!”

Fabulous hotel in the slightly bizarre town of Den Helder. Great for cycling trips. Our second visit and we couldn't have asked for better service

“Overall a good hotel”

Good size room, good beds, very good bathroom, very nice service.
No internet (WLAN or cable) in the rooms. No movie channels on TV. No mini bar. Thin walls.

“Very good but be so kind to watch the eggs.”

lots of plus points (see above) also the very nice people who work there.
No real minus points except the being not so clear about the eggs in the morning!! So the sign 'eggs to fry' should be before the eggs and not partially hiding in the eggs so you can just read the sign as 'eggs to' and the fry can't be read. And a bigger sign also please!! But this is a minor detail, it is a great hotel.
