Diest lies in the northeast of the province of Flemish Brabant, by the river Demer. It is a cosy city with a rich history. The hotel's name refers to the centuries-old connection that Diest has with the princes of Oranje and the counts of Nassau. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands still uses her title 'Baroness of Diest'. The historic centre of Diest has many listed buildings. The gothic Saint-Sulpitius church on the market square houses the grave of Philip William, the oldest son of William of Orange. In 1963, Diest signed a treaty with Breda, Dillenburg and Orange; a union of four cities that have a strong connection with the House of Oranje-Nassau.
