Ghent River Hotel

Hotel details:

The Ghent River Hotel has its own jetty and it is the only hotel in Ghent that is accessible by boat. The hotel consists of a Renaissance house dating from 1518 and an old factory that dates from 1857. Both buildings are connected by a very modern section. In front of the hotel is a little square that served as a cotton market during the Middle Ages and the nineteenth century. Next to the hotel is a typical medieval 'little water street'. A few minutes' walk from the hotel you will find the Vrijdagsmarkt.

The breakfast room lies on the third floor of the hotel and offers a beautiful view of the Ghent skyline. In the cosy lounge guests can enjoy a Belgian beer or another drink.

The city centre of Ghent is mostly off-limit for cars. The train station Gent-Sint-Pieters is the city's main station. There are many options to discover this beautiful city. You could go on a guided city tour or explore the city on foot by yourself. It is also possible to book a boat ride or enjoy a trip in a horse carriage. An even more spectacular view is to be had during a balloon or helicopter ride.

“Excellent location, facilities, service, value for money.”
  • Reception staff very friendly and helpful, they provided a tourist map and booklet of Ghent. The location was excellent, the room was spacious and had all the facilities you would need. There was a wide selection of food to cater for all at breakfast. Highly recommend this hotel.
  • Although not under the Hotels control, information relating to the cost of parking in the area just outside the Hotel would of been helpful. You can park for 24hrs for as little as 10 Euro, but you need to be able to understand the language otherwise parking would of been expensive.

  • Ligging, prijs parkeergarage.
  • De lekkerste broodjes waren om half 10 al op. Ook waren de scrambled eggs al op.

“Good choice for weekend stay.”
  • Hotel has good location to access the centre. Even to comeback for a while and to rest if exhausted by city walk. It was clean and nice. Good choice for short stay.
  • Room was cold - situated on base floor with window to the inner section. Fortunately reception provide us heater upon request. Price of breakfast was too high considering the quality. No fresh fruits and vegetables in breakfast bar.

  • Location is fantastic within walking distance of all local restaurants and entertainment. All in all a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were very comfortable but could perhaps have been bigger?
  • The bar area is not very good as it is in the main reception. A separate bar area away from the entrance would be better and perhaps then we would have had a drink.
