Groningen Hotel de Ville

Hotel details:

NH Groningen Hotel de Ville is a luxury 4-star hotel in the heart of Groningen. The narrow little streets shelter countless boutiques and university buildings. Groningen is a real student town; nearly a quarter of its residents are studying either at the University of Groningen or at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences. This city is blessed with several lovely courtyards with almshouses. The Pelstergasthuis, for instance, dates back to the 13th century and has had several functions over the years. Locals now live in many of these former almshouses and hospitals. What's more, the courtyards have open access and tours are organised here.

An elaborate breakfast buffet is served from Monday to Saturday from 07:00 until 11:00, and on Sunday from 07:00 until 12:00. Guests can enjoy a variety of freshly baked rolls and croissants in the beautiful Garden Room. The kitchen serves seasonal dishes centred on Mediterranean cuisine. In Bistro 't Gerecht you can enjoy culinary delights in the form of 3 and 4-course menus as well as light bistro dishes. Guests can also determine the size of their portions. During the summer, you can enjoy your meal in the garden of NH Hotel De Ville, while the hotel's Garden Room and library are ideal for private dinners and lunches for 10 up to 60 persons.

Groningen is a tranquil yet vibrant city. Almost a quarter of its inhabitants are students and the city has a rich history. A large part of the Northern Netherlands can be reached from Hotel De Ville. The Northern Dutch Coast with its fishermen's villages and picturesque scenery is a source of inspiration for many Dutch painters and is well worth visiting. The beautiful star-shaped fortified village of Bourtange was established during the Eighty Years War from 1568 until 1648, and is just an hour away.

NH Groningen Hotel de Ville has all the facilities you may expect from a 4-star hotel. The hotel offers bike hire, a laundry service, and a lovely bar/bistro. The rooms come with free wireless Internet, a mini-bar, a telephone, a safe, and a selection of pillows. An iron and ironing board are available on request.

“Beautiful stay in Groningen ”
  • The hotel is lovely. We particularly liked the bar and garden. The room was very comfortable.
  • Although, the hotel is lovely and seemed quiet, the soundproofing isn t great. In the morning, we could hear every door closing, and conversation in Corridor.

“Better than home.”
  • Superb staff. Excellent breakfast.
  • A small comfortable chair would have been nice in the room.

“Comfortable hotel, centrally located with helpful staff”
  • Desk staff could not be faulted. They were all very helpful and knowledgeable. The public areas were very comfortable and welcoming on a very cold afternoon.
  • Maid service was a bit 'hit and miss'. Coffee / tea / bathroom supplies were replenished (or not!) very randomly. The bins were not always emptied. There was no price list at the bar, so we had no idea of what was available, or how much it would be.

“Great location, Great sleep”
  • this hotel is very well situated close to everything. the atmosphere is really charming and welcoming the staff were really nice and very helpful (which is really important when you don't speak the language) I arrived to find out I had recieved a free room upgrade :D really great free coffee in the lobby! :D
  • the lobby computer doesn't give you very much time for use.. they could improve the business center by adding more than 15 min access to it.

“The room let the hotel standard down!!!!!!!!!”
  • The staff were very friendly and polite the overall hotel was of a nice standard
  • The room had stains on the walls that looked like somebody had spat at the wall, these stains had not been addressed. The television stand looked like it was from the local tip!!!!!!! There were marks on the carpet all over the place and the quilt cover had a large hole in it. The room nunber was 303 and the room totally let the standard of the hotel down. this was my wedding aniversary and my wife was very upset. I waited untill the end of our stay before reporting these faults to the reception because i didnt want to spoil or upset my wife by complaining, the moment we entered the room. At reception i was offered a free Capuchino as compensation, This left me with a bad impressiobn of the Hotel staff.

“Close to being a nice hotel”
  • very nice decorated hotel in public spaces. Nice terrace.
  • room looked not finished. Bed was just 2 matresses and very poor quality. We counted the springs at night. Service was not very friendly and welcoming. TV was smaller than my laptop. With a little bit of effort this could be a really nice hotel but at this point they just missed the boat.
