The best activities around Vaals

1. Cycling and hiking through beautiful nature
The surroundings of Hotel Bloemendal are ideal for cycling and hiking. The Limburg hill country has its own charm in every season. In the nature around the hotel, you will find vineyards, castles, historic towns, and rolling hills.

2. Visit the Three-Country Point
Vaals is known for the Three-Country Point, where the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium meet. From the Wilhelmina Tower, you have a magnificent view over the three countries. From a height of 35 meters, you can see from the Ardennes to Aachen Cathedral. The Three-Country Point is freely accessible all year round.

3. Valkenburg Castle Ruins
The Valkenburg Castle Ruins are the only hilltop castle in the Netherlands. After the climb, you are rewarded with a beautiful view. From the ruins, you can descend into the Velvet Cave, which is directly connected to the castle. The Municipal Cave, the oldest and largest marl cave in the Netherlands, is also worth visiting. Both caves are unique: the Velvet Cave is known for its sculptures and medieval drawings, while the Municipal Cave impresses with its wide corridors and rich history.

4. A day trip to Aachen
A short distance from Vaals lies the German city of Aachen, in the Northern Eifel. This historic city has an atmospheric old town with a UNESCO World Heritage cathedral, cozy market squares, and plenty of shopping opportunities. Aachen is ideal for a day trip and easily accessible by both car and public transport.

“Great place to stay”
  • Beautiful hotel and setting. The restuarant was excellent and acommodated (and remembered for breakfast) a wheat free diet very well. Staff friendly and helpful.
  • Rooms aren't very sound proof and there was a lot of noise made by other guests until the early hours of the morning

“Wonderful staff and great location.”
  • Beautiful location. Wonderful, friendly service from the people at the reception desk, in the bar and restaurant. Great breakfast buffet.
  • Hairdryer needs updating with one that won't require you to hold the on/off button when drying your hair. Shower knobs for hold/cold water temperature difficult to operate and adjust. Would also be handy to have a handheld shower instead of one that is attached to wall.

“Impressive”

  • At 75 Euros it was very good value for money, its a beitiful Hotel and the room was large and comfotable
  • Wireless conection was available but expensive, its free in many US Hotels, Breakfast was expensive, so I did not have it. Local telephone calls was expensive. TV rather old and the control not ease to select channels

  • All the other front desk staff were quite pleasant and very helpful. Restaurant staff quite efficient and friendly. Great job at making an historic property a functional hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Your grounds were beautiful to look at and stroll around the property.
  • There was one member of the front desk staff that was less than friendly. Most hotels these days provide free internet in their lobby for their guests; you may want to consider this.

  • A totally comfortable and relaxing stay.We are both in our late seventies and the atmosphere and service was superbly enjoyable. The demi-homard on coquilles st jacques was a meal to remember! We found the hotel on the internet which proves its value for the hotel. We will return!
  • We would both be very wrong to find ANY criticism.

  • Good and friendly staff, great location and nice breakfast. Rooms are spacious.
  • The rooms are in contrast to the outside of the hotel. Its elegant looks promise a lot, but the rooms are old and wore down. And what is it with the absence of a toothbrush and razor? The gates close after 11pm which made us have to climb a lot with the additional risk of broken limbs.
