The location of De Wapser Herberg in the nature reserve Drents-Friese Wold makes it a perfect base to explore the surrounding landscape, which is characterized by stretches of heath and woods. Here you can go hiking, biking or have a picnic. Biking and hiking maps are available at the hotel.
This enjoyable family hotel has a nostalgic décor with antiques and collections of old tools, coffee grinders and tea pots. In the large hotel garden in English style you will find a pond and a waterfall, as well as several benches. The hotel rooms have a traditional English interior with all modern facilities. All rooms have a shower, toilet and cable television. The rooms are all situated on the ground floor and are free of thresholds.
The restaurant is locally known for its quality cuisine. Guests can sit and relax in the sun room after dining, or enjoy the outdoor terrace under a parasol or by a lounge fire with a drink and some Drents-Frisian tapas. The multifunctional breakfast room can also be used for meetings, workshops or celebrations.

You could also walk in the top of the trees at the Boomkroonpad in Drouwen, visit the WWII remembrance center Kamp Westerbork, make a trip to the Drents Museum in Assen, the Planetron in Dwingeloo, the open air museum Ellert en Brammert in Schoonoord or the zoo Noorderdierenpark in Emmen.
Food and Drink
The breakfast buffet is served from 08:00 until 09:30. Father and son run the renowned restaurant, which is well-known in the surrounding area. They use regional products to create culinary dishes, including traditional local dishes. There is also a wine list with a fitting selection of wines. The kitchen is open from 12:00 until 20:00 every day. In the period between October and the end of March, the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays.
