Hotel

The hotel lies in the old city centre of Zutphen. This Hanseatic city is located along the river IJssel and dates back to the Roman era. The hotel combines 17th century architecture with contemporary styles, and 17th and 18th century art with modern art. The hotel is perfectly in keeping with Zutphen's ancient city centre, with its meandering streets and alleys. The hotel offers Single and Double Rooms. All rooms come with a television, an internet connection, and an en suite bathroom with a toilet, a shower, and a bath. Bikes are available to hire at reception, and safes are also available.

Surroundings

Zutphen with its striking towers and stately townhouses is simply stunning when viewed from the riverbank. The city's riches, accumulated in the 14th and 15th centuries during the Hanseatic period is still reflected in Zutphen's beautiful buildings. The St. Walburgis church and the Berkelpoort are located in the city centre, the latter of which is part of the city wall. The countryside surrounding Zutphen is also lovely. You can hire a bike at reception and discover the area's castles and scenic beauty.

Food and Drink

An extensive breakfast buffet is served daily at the hotel from 07:00 until 10:00, in the Serre Restaurant. Brasserie 6 is situated in one of the wings; a lovely meeting place with a bright, young vibe. The kitchen offers contemporary seasonal dishes.

    Ample room for improvement

Nice location, good restaurant, friendly service

Room was very hot 35 degrees ,with no AC just a fan. Bathroom was very inadequate , bathroom completely wet after taking a shower.

“My tip: On hot days like this do not put people on this side of the hotel, remember you never get a second chance to make a first impression. Or better still install AC or put at least shades at the outside of these windows.”

Central location - but rooms small, no air conditioning.

Good central location, nice historical building.

Rooms are small, with no air conditioning - a fan was provided but I only found it on the second night. Rather impersonal - although reception staff helpful. No details provided of hotel facilities. Shower wasn't powerful enough to wash soap/gel off. Water from shower runs through to rest of bathroom. Breakfast on Saturdays doesn't start until 8.00 a.m. making it difficult to make an early departure.

As above perfect. Staff excellent. Food very good. No hesitation to recommend your hotel to family and friends.

“My tip: Use hotel parking. You pay approx 12.50 euro per day, but well worth it for peace of mind.Hampshie Hotel Zutphen”

Nice location with low quality rooms.

friendly receptionist and breakfast is above average.(although only scrambled eggs)

very small room, not clean, small silly beds, very noisy rooms, no soap shampoo and other toiletery. Absolutely no 4* hotel

“My tip: Take ample time and check your room first. The location is nice and the front part of the building is monumental.”

Well situated, good breakfast buffet, poor facilities for the disabled

Situated just a short walk from the centre of Zutphen in a very pretty setting. Staff helpful. Breakfast buffet was good, if a little expensive.

I was given, for some unknown reason, a room for a disabled person. The bathroom fittings were extremely poor and showing clear signs of rust. The toilet pan was far too high. Given that the bathroom was adapted it is surprising to note that the bed was extremely low which would have made transfers very difficult if I had mobility problems (I am an occupational therapist (OT) trained to assess such environments, I would strongly recommend that the hotel seeks the advice of a local OT on this matter plus accessibility). I was forced to vacate my room at 9.30am by the housekeepers, which did not please me.

    Not 4 star

Located in a nice part of town and next door to a good brasserie.

The bedroom was more 2 star than 4 star. It was small, very dated, tiny bed, some advertised functionality wasn't in good order e.g hair drier. There was a bulb not working in the bedroom and the toilet bowl was not entirely clean. The breakfast was also expensive.

Prima hotel voor een goede prijs op een schitterende locatie

    ligging, vooraanzicht, uitstraling, ontbijt

Nice hotel but in need a good housekeeper

Lovely building and very friendly service.

Both soap containers in the bathroom were empty. Safe in the room was open but in lock position so impossible to use.

    summer special

The forefront is a nice historic building. The location is very central.

The double room we were given in a so called 'summer special' was a 'closet' of 3x2 meters. Even though we paid a special rate we felt cheated. It does not do a 4* hotel any good for their reputation to offer special deals if it is of such a low quality. When asking about noise from the street the staff behaved very indiffently. They did not mention the room would be small and indeed noisy. Neither did they offer alternatives for the room.

Free internet, perfect location, very good breakfast.I would say it\'s a hotel of 3 stars level, but not 4, as it\'s stated. But still this is the best option to stay in Zutphen.

I\'m very strict in cleaning, and I noticed shelves and desks in the room were covered with a dust. From another side, I have never seen a hotel yet which satisfy my requirements in cleaning (regularly it\'s the same slight cover of dust). So it\'s may be ok for the most of people.

The hotel is in a beautiful building, combining old and new in an interesting way. It is situated in a very quiet part of town. A big plus is the complimentary WiFi.

All over the hotel and in the rooms are notices that the restaurant closes at 10 pm. This was not the case when I stayed there. I returned from a concert in the church opposite at 9:20 and was told the kitchen was closed and therefore room service was also no longer available. Because of the warm weather the bar (for a few barsnacks instead of dinner) had also been closed and operated in the courtyard (which was still full with diners.....??) This was a BIG minus point.
